Toyota 4Runner A/C Condenser
The A/C Condenser used in the Toyota 4Runner automobiles is a heat exchanger that cools the gaseous refrigeration, and turning the refrigeration into liquid before it moves to the accumulator. Usually, it is installed at the front side of the radiator, the A/C condenser consists of a set of tubes that let it cool down. In all the generations of the 4Runner, the design of the A/C Condenser has not gone through a dramatic shift and the main areas of focus have always been efficiency and heat exchange. - Q: How to remove and install a A/C Condenser on 2003 through 2009 Toyota 4Runner?A: When replacing the condenser, you should replace the receiver-drier. This requires taking the vehicle to a professional for refrigerant recovery. Disconnect the refrigerant lines on the condenser, cap the open fittings, and remove the condenser. To install the new condenser, make sure the rubber cushions fit on the mounting points. Reconnect the refrigerant lines with new O-rings, lubricated with oil.
- Q: How to replace the condenser unit and add compressor oil to the system on 1996 through 2002 Toyota 4Runner?A: If the condenser is to be replaced with a new unit, add 1.4 to 1.7 fluid ounces of compressor oil to the system. First, have the refrigerant discharged by an air conditioning technician. Then, remove the front grille, the hood lock brace and center support brace for access. Disconnect the condenser inlet and outlet fittings. When disconnecting the condenser refrigerant lines, use two wrenches to prevent twisting the lines. Cap the open fittings immediately to keep moisture and contamination out of the system. The left-side fitting is connected to the receiver/drier. Next, remove the condenser mounting bolts, pull the condenser forward and lift it out. Install the condenser, brackets and bolts, making sure the rubber cushions fit on the mounting points properly. Reconnect the refrigerant lines, using new 0-rings where needed. If a new condenser has been installed, add approximately 1.4 to 1.7 ounces (50 cc) of new refrigerant oil of the correct type (R-134a). Reinstall the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal. Finally, have the system evacuated, charged and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
