How do you remove and install the alternator on 2003 through 2009 Toyota 4Runner?

Starting with V6 models, SVT or SER, the first step is to remove the engine cover and the battery, followed by lifting the front of the car and placing the car on jackstands. Now, first remove the under- cover of the engine as well as the drive belt or drive sheave. More working space will be available if it is decided to unbolt the air conditioning compressor. The electrical connections of the alternator shall be disconnected first by holding down the release tab, thereafter by the nut and final by the battery cable from the B+ terminal. The last step is to take out the conical headed bolt to the alternator harness bracket to the battery tray and set the bracket aside. Then, remove the two bolts of the steel bracket which holds the alternator wire harness and then unbolt the two bolts of the alternator to disconnect it. Should be connedted to the old alternator that this or a rebuilt one, has the same terminal number, size and position. Note that some new or rebuilt alternators may entail a pulley switch from the old unit and know about the shop's policy on pulleys. After removal it is installed in reverse order, with particular attention being paid to the fact that all mounting fasteners are tightened on. Last of all, one should inspect the charging voltage to make sure the alternator is working effectively. For V8 models, begin with the thread pulling the cable off the negative terminal of the battery; next, pop off the upper radiator crossmember cover and finally, remove the drivebelt. Third, remove the engine cooling fan and fan clutch together with the removal of power steering pump, without having to remove the hoses. Unscrew the nut followed by the connector to separate the electrical connectors from the alternator. To disengage the alternator you have to unbolt the alternator mounting bolt as well as nut. Based on the V6 models, installation is the processes that are inversely done to removal; make sure that all bolts and screws have been tightened as required, followed by checking the charging volts to ascertain the correctness of the alternator.
