Toyota Echo Brake Light Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and refit the stop-light switch on Toyota Echo?
A: To remove the brake light switch, start by moving the driver's seat fully to the rear for maximum working space. Disconnect the wiring plug from the brake light switch located at the top of the brake pedal bracket, then loosen the switch locknut and withdraw the switch from the bracket. For refitting, reverse the removal process. After fitting and reconnecting the switch, check its operation by having an assistant observe the brake lights while you push the brake pedal in by hand approximately 5 to 10 mm, adjusting the brake light switch so that the lights just turn off. Release the pedal and slowly press it again to ensure the brake lights illuminate before the pedal has traveled 15 mm. Additionally, the brake light can be adjusted by measuring the clearance between the switch plunger and the top of the pedal, comparing it with the specified measurement.
