Toyota Echo Cooling Fan Assembly

The Cooling Fan Assembly is much needed especially for Toyota echo vehicles because it plays a significant role of ensuring that the temperature of the car engine is regulated appropriately since it helps create a passage way for air to get to the radiator. This assembly comprises a fan blade, a mounting shroud and a motor, preferably located close to the radiator in order to cool the hot coolant before it is pumped back to the engine. Sedan models of Toyota Echo use mechanical and electric cooling fan assembly. Mechanical fans are mounted on the water pump shaft and operated through a thermal clutch; high-speed operation is quiet, efficient, and precise. On the other hand the electric cooling fans are connected to a 12V motor and turn on and off depending in the coolant temperature and air conditioning load for efficient cooling of the radiator and condenser. The choice of these types depends on the improvement of designs of vehicles; electric fans are installed in most of the new Echo models.

Toyota Echo Cooling Fan Assembly Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to check and replace the cooling fan on a Toyota Echo?
A: On all models, the Cooling Fan Assembly is controlled by the engine management ECM, using signals provided by the cooling fan switch. To check the fan switch circuit, with the engine cold, disconnect the cooling fan switch wiring plug, then switch on the ignition. The cooling fan should operate. The fan motor can be checked by connecting the fan motor directly to a 12 volt power supply. Disconnect the motor wiring plug, and apply 12 volts across the motor terminals. If the fan fails to operate, the fan motor is almost certainly at fault. If the motor works with battery voltage applied, but fails to cut in once the engine is hot, check the following: cooling fan switch and Coolant Temperature Sensor, cooling fan relay and engine main relay, fuses, and the condition of all wiring and connectors. For removal, drain the cooling system and disconnect the cooling fan wiring plug, as well as the wiring plug from the horn. Disconnect the upper hose and expansion tank hose from the Radiator. Remove the side cover and unbolt and lift away the upper support panel. Lift the upper support panel off, retaining the radiator upper mounting rubbers. Remove the mounting bolts for the cooling fan shroud and lift the shroud/fan assembly out. To remove the motor, undo the fan's central nut and remove the fan, then secure the motor with three bolts. Refitting is a reversal of removal, ensuring the radiator fan wiring is securely connected and the harness is routed clear of the fan blades or hot components.
