Toyota Echo Fuel Level Sensor

The Fuel Level Sensor is a component that is placed in Fuel Tank of the Toyota Echo models to notify the driver about the current status of the Tank. These are electronics that are intended to give correct information of the amount of fuel contained in the tanker at any given time irrespective of the weather conditions prevailing at that moment in time and this information is hastened to the driver. The sensor has the components of the float, the actuating rod and resistor that help to extend and relay signals to fuel gauge. The authors would like to underline that if there are some problems connected with a fuel level sensor, it is better to address to service. Normal working of this sensor triggers warnings when fuel is getting low; such a mistake like having a full tank warning even after refilling can be corrected.

  • Q: How do you remove the combined fuel pump,Fuel Filter and fuel gauge sender unit on Toyota Echo?
A: To remove the combined fuel pump and Fuel Level Sensor in a vehicle, start by disconnecting the battery negative lead and folding the rear seat forwards or removing it. Lift up the carpet and pry up the access cover to reveal the unit. Disconnect the wiring plug and fuel supply pipe from the top of the unit, being cautious of fuel spillage. Remove the evaporative emissions connector by squeezing the tabs together and pulling it off. Unscrew and remove the mounting plate or loosen the lock ring, depending on the model. Lift out the fuel pump/Fuel Level Sensor, being careful not to damage the pump filter or bend the Fuel Level Sensor float arm. To remove the fuel pump from the unit, release the plastic tabs securing the two halves of the unit and separate them. Disconnect the fuel pump connector and unclip the fuel pump lower cover. Lift out the fuel pump lower spacer and slide out the pump from the filter assembly. Refitting is the reverse of removal. To remove the fuel pressure regulator, separate the upper and lower sections of the unit and disconnect the fuel pump wiring plug. Prise up the fuel pressure regulator and remove it. Refitting is the reverse of removal. The fuel filter is housed in the lower section of the unit. Remove the fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator, then refit them to the new fuel filter and reassemble with the upper section of the unit. To remove the Fuel Level Sensor, disconnect the wiring plug and pull out the retaining clip. Note the fitted location of the Fuel Level Sensor when removing it. Refitting is the reverse of removal, ensuring the condition of the fuel filter and rubber seal, tightening the mounting plate bolts or lock ring securely, and checking for correct pump operation and leaks before refitting the access cover.
