Toyota Highlander Antenna Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove a conventional antenna mast on Toyota Highlander?
A: To remove the conventional antenna mast, unscrew it from the mounting base. Next, take off the right A-pillar trim panel using a trim removal tool or a slotted screwdriver, ensuring to tape the screwdriver tip to protect the plastic trim, and also remove the right kick panel. Disconnect the electrical connector linking the antenna mounting base cable to the cable routed through the dash by detaching it from the mounting bracket, cutting the tape, depressing the release tab, and pulling the antenna mounting base cable out of the clip. Unscrew the castellated nut from the top of the antenna mounting base to detach it from the fender, using special wrenches or needle-nose pliers. Loosen the right front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle securely on jackstands, and remove the right front wheel. Remove the right wheel housing splash shield, then locate the lower part of the antenna mounting base assembly, snaking out the antenna cable through the grommet and removing the mounting bracket nut while ensuring to reattach the ground wire during installation. Carefully pull the antenna mounting base cable through the grommet, using a flashlight to guide it into the passenger compartment between the instrument panel and the A-pillar. The installation process is the reverse of removal. For the antenna cable between the antenna and the radio, remove the instrument panel assembly, study the routing of the antenna cable, and unclip it from the backside of the instrument panel, ensuring correct routing and installation of all clips during reassembly. Some vehicles may have a wire grid-type antenna attached to the rear window glass, which can be repaired similarly to the rear window defogger grid if issues arise.
