Toyota Land Cruiser Sway Bar Bushing Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove and install the stabilizer bar and bushing on Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: To take off the sway bar, the first thing one has to do is engage the parking brake and support the vehicle on jackstands. Next, remove the sway bar end links, paying attention to the position of the upper and lower retainers and grommets in case of FJ60 and FJ62. If so required, it is possible to release the links from the axle brackets. Next, loosen and take out the retaining bolts that connect the sway bar to the frame through the bushing clamps; examine the rubber bushings themselves and change them if they are hard, cracked or distorted. Once the bar has been disconnected, remove the Sway Bar Bushing and inspect for cracks or wear and tear and should serve to be replaced with the new ones and even the ones on the lower ends of the linkages. For installation, place the new bushings on the bar and then push the brackets over the bushings, then raise the bar to the frame, install the bracket bolts but do not overtighten. Last but not least, tighten the sway bar end links in the reversed manner of that which has been followed while removing them to the prescribed torque and the bracket bolts should also follow the same torque.
