Toyota MR2 Coolant Reservoir

The coolant reservoir in Toyota MR2 vehicles belongs to the line of components of the engine cooling system which is used for storing of coolant and thus prevents it from spilling and also makes sure that there is no air contained in the system. There are two types of Coolant Reservoirs used in MR2 vehicles: There are two general types of expansion tanks: the overflow tank systems and the expansion tank systems. The overflow type has a basic cap on the tank made of plastic while the expansion type has a pressure cap placed on the tank. It is therefore advisable to inspect the unit frequently for signs of fatigue, leakage, and general sign of aging and effects of heat cycling. The Coolant Reservoir is important to the overall maintenance of the coolant and also to avoid polluting the environment in case of leakage of antifreeze.

  • Q: How do you remove and install the recovery bottle in a Toyota MR2?
A: First of all, remove the coolant reservoir cap, ensuring the overflow hose remains attached, and set it aside. Next, disconnect the air bleeder valve hose from the left side of the reservoir. Lift the reservoir straight up to remove it. The back of the coolant reservoir is designed to slide on and off a metal bracket bolted to the engine compartment rear firewall. To separate the reservoir, lift it straight up. To install it, line up the bracket with the grooves and push straight down. Installation is the reverse of removal.
