Toyota Supra Turn Signal Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you check the turn signal/hazard flasher and Turn Signal Switch on Toyota Supra?
A: The turn signal/hazard flasher relay, found beneath the left lower dash panel in models from 1982 to 1986, can be checked by removing it and connecting the positive lead from the battery to terminal 3 and the negative lead to terminal 2, while a 55W bulb is connected between terminals 1 and 2 to verify flashing. If it fails to operate, replacement is necessary. The turn signal/hazard flasher switch is located in the steering column assembly and can be checked for continuity using an ohmmeter after unscrewing and unplugging the electrical connector at the base of the steering column. The light control and headlight dimmer switches are also in the steering column and should be checked similarly for continuity. The windshield wiper and washer switch, located on the right side of the steering column, requires the steering wheel and column cover to be removed for access; continuity can be checked after unplugging the electrical connector. For replacement of the turn signal/hazard flasher, light control switch, or headlight dimmer switch, the steering wheel and column cover must be removed, followed by disconnecting the wire harness electrical connector and removing the mounting screws for the switch assembly. The problematic switch can then be detached and replaced, with installation being the reverse of removal, ensuring that all terminals are securely locked in place. To replace the wiper switch, the combination switch assembly must first be removed, followed by detaching the wiper and washer switch from the back of the assembly, with installation again being the reverse of removal.
