Toyota T100 Brake Shoe Set

The Brake Shoe Set of Toyota T100 vehicles are part of the drum brakes that it uses to create the required amount of friction to halt the vehicle. These shoes are attached to a backing plate and are operated by hydraulic pistons which push the friction lining against the brake drum when brakes are on. It made it possible to offer good stopping power especially at the rear wheels that employ drum brakes more often. Through the years, a number of arrangements of the Brake Shoe Set have been used such as the non-servo and the duo-servo type. Nevertheless, both are self-closing, duo-servo have a better stopping power owing to their design. It is necessary to pay much attention to the Brake Shoes Front as wear or contamination might impact braking performance in the worst way.

Toyota T100 Brake Shoe Set Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you replace the rear brake shoes on Toyota T100?
A: To replace the rear Brake Shoe Set on a vehicle, start by loosening the wheel lug nuts and raising the rear of the vehicle on jack stands. Remove the rear wheels and then the brake drum. If the drum is stuck, use penetrating oil and tap around the studs and flange to break it loose. If it is still stuck, screw bolts into the threaded holes in the drum and tighten them to push the drum off. If the drum is locked onto the shoes due to excessive wear, remove the plug in the access hole and use a screwdriver to push the actuator lever off the star adjuster and retract the shoes. Clean the brake assembly with brake system cleaner. Remove the hold-down springs, anchor springs, and adjuster assembly. Replace the brake shoes and lubricate the contact points on the backing plate with high-temperature brake grease. Clean and inspect the brake drum for any damage or wear, resurfacing or replacing it if necessary. Repeat these steps for the other rear brake assembly. Adjust the parking brake cable bellcrank on 4WD pick-ups and all 4Runner models. Install the brake drums and pump the brake pedal to adjust the shoes until they slightly drag on the drums. Install the rear wheels, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts. Finally, check the brake pedal position and test the brakes for proper operation before driving in traffic.
