Position a drain pan under the power steering pump and disconnect the pressure and return hoses from the backside of the pump, loosening the hose clamp to detach the return hose and removing the banjo bolt that connects the pressure line to the pump; plug the hoses to prevent contaminants from entering. If replacing the power steering pump, remove the pulley by jamming an extension or tool through one of the pulley holes to immobilize it, then remove the nut. Alternatively, the pulley can be removed after taking the pump out, but it requires securing the pump in a bench vise.
