Toyota T100 Steering Wheel Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How do you properly remove and install a steering wheel on Toyota T100?
A: Park the vehicle with the front wheels pointed straight ahead and the steering wheel centered, then disconnect both cables from the battery, ensuring you have the correct activation code for the stereo's anti-theft system if applicable. For models equipped with airbags, disable the airbag system. Pry out the two small covers on each side of the steering wheel and loosen the two Tone screws that retain the airbag module, backing them off until they catch on the screw cases. Lift the airbag module off the steering wheel and disconnect the airbag connector by flipping up the locking cap, prying open the locking tab, and pulling out the connector. Unplug any other electrical connectors that may interfere with steering wheel removal. Remove the steering wheel retaining nut and mark the position of the steering wheel to the shaft if no marks exist. Use a puller to detach the steering wheel from the shaft without hammering on it, and avoid turning the steering shaft during this process to prevent un-centering the spiral cable, which could render the airbag inoperative. Center the spiral cable by ensuring the front wheels are straight, turning the spiral cable housing counterclockwise until it becomes hard to turn, then turning it clockwise about three turns and aligning the marks. To install the wheel, align the mark on the steering wheel hub with the mark on the shaft, slide the wheel onto the shaft, and tighten the nut to the specified torque, with installation otherwise being the reverse of removal.
