How to remove and installs control assembly for the stereo and heater on 1995 through 2004 Toyota Tacoma?

Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. If the stereo in your vehicle is equipped with an anti-theft system, make sure you have the correct activation code before disconnecting the battery. Remove the center cluster trim panels. Pull off the control knobs (Pull the selector knob straight off. Pull the knobs off the rotary switches). Remove the mounting screws located on the front of the A/C switch assembly. Pull the A/C switch out slightly. If equipped with cables, twist the flags on the control cable mounts and remove the cables from the A/C switch. Disconnect the electrical connectors. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Run the engine and check for proper functioning of the A/C switch. With the cables attached at the A/C switch end and the A/C switch assembly installed in the dash, adjust the cables at their ends. The controls should be set to: RECIRC, COOL, and DEF. To adjust the air inlet damper control cable set the damper lever to FRESH, install the cable and clamp it in place. To adjust the air mix control cable, set the air mix damper to COOL, install the cable and lock the clamp while applying slight pressure on the outer cable. To adjust the mode damper control cable, set the mode damper to the DEF mode, hook the cable end on and tighten the clamp. Check the A/C switch following the accompanying tables. Check the heater control switch following the accompanying tables. If the switch fails any of the tests, replace the A/C switch assembly.

To remove the A/C switch from the center dash, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Then, carefully pry the A/C switch away from the center dash and disconnect the A/C switch electrical connectors. To install the A/C switch, simply reverse the steps taken during removal.

Toyota Tacoma A/C Switch

A/C Switch is a control that initiates the flow of the refrigerant in the HVAC system of the Toyota Tacoma responsible for heating and cooling the vehicle cabin. Present in the dashboard, it involves buttons, dial and knob controls in ensuring users regulate the climate of their vehicles irrespective of the various weather conditions. This module works with switches and relays as well as with power modules which control various elements of climate control systems. Automatic temperature control units also have a power module that changes the speed of the blower motor according to the readings of temperature sensors thus making it more efficient than the previous models that had only a few blower speeds. A: Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. If the stereo in your vehicle is equipped with an anti-theft system, make sure you have the correct activation code before disconnecting the battery. Remove the center cluster trim panels. Pull off the control knobs (Pull the selector knob straight off. Pull the knobs off the rotary switches). Remove the mounting screws located on the front of the A/C switch assembly. Pull the A/C switch out slightly. If equipped with cables, twist the flags on the control cable mounts and remove the cables from the A/C switch. Disconnect the electrical connectors. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Run the engine and check for proper functioning of the A/C switch. With the cables attached at the A/C switch end and the A/C switch assembly installed in the dash, adjust the cables at their ends. The controls should be set to: RECIRC, COOL, and DEF. To adjust the air inlet damper control cable set the damper lever to FRESH, install the cable and clamp it in place. To adjust the air mix control cable, set the air mix damper to COOL, install the cable and lock the clamp while applying slight pressure on the outer cable. To adjust the mode damper control cable, set the mode damper to the DEF mode, hook the cable end on and tighten the clamp. Check the A/C switch following the accompanying tables. Check the heater control switch following the accompanying tables. If the switch fails any of the tests, replace the A/C switch assembly.
