Toyota Tundra Door Handle Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How do you remove and install the door latch, lock cylinder, and handles on Toyota Tundra?
A: On models equipped with power windows and door locks, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the door trim panel and the plastic watershield. Working through the large access hole, disengage the rod to the outside handle and the lock cylinder by rotating the retaining clip up and disconnecting the rod from the outside handle. The door lock rod is attached by plastic clips, which can be removed by unsnapping the portion engaging the connecting rod and pulling the rod out of its locating hole. Remove the screws securing the latch to the door, then pull the latch back enough to disconnect the electrical connector at the latch. Remove the latch assembly through the door opening with the two cables from the inside door handle still attached to the latch. Installation is the reverse of removal. To remove the outside handle and lock cylinder assembly, raise the window before removing the door trim panel and watershield. Remove an access plug at the rear of the door. Working through the access hole, loosen the TORX screw and remove the lock cylinder cover and the door lock key cylinder as a unit. Once the lock cylinder is out, disengage the lock cover clips using a screwdriver and separate the cover from the lock cylinder. Installation is the reverse of removal. Once the lock cylinder has been removed, slide the exterior handle reward and out to remove. Working from the outside of the door, remove the handle assembly exterior mounting screw. From inside of the door, disconnect the electrical connector, remove the mounting screw, disconnect the lock rod clip, and move the lock rod away from the handle. If the door latch was removed, leave the lock rod attached to the door handle assembly. Installation is the reverse of removal. Remove the door trim panel, disengage the handle-to-latch cables, and remove the cables from the handle. Remove the handle retaining screws and disengage the handle from the door trim panel. Installation is the reverse of removal.
