    Q:
How to remove and install the stamped sheet metal lower oil pan on Toyota Prius? Posted by Customer
    A:
This procedure is a removal/replacement for the stamped sheet metal lower oil pan only not the large cast aluminum upper oil pan that is generally pulled during engine tear down. Start with the removal of the cable from the negative terminal of the 12-volt battery, then on reconnecting, do an initialization. Apply the parking brake and turn the rear wheels until the tires are stopped; then, lifting the front end of the car and placing jacks under the frame, lock the wheels with wheel chocks. If paired, then take off the two narrow and long plastic shields located below the engine, evacuated the oil from the engine, and also eliminate the oil filter together with the stick known as the oil dipstick. Lift the oil pan enough and unbolt it, you can use a small screwdriver/putty knife and gently gently try to pry the oil pan loose because sometimes it may be stuck and when you pry it loose, make sure you do not scratch the surface so that it does not lead to oils leaks. Regarding installation, strip all old sealant off the block and oil pan, use scraper, and ensure the mating surfaces are clean with lacquer thinner or acetone. Marcasite holes in the block to be checked for cleanliness of the threaded holes and oil pan flange for warping to be removed during honing for nicks and burrs. Evaluate the area where the pump picks up the oil for some cracks and examine for a blocked strainer, if the pick-up tube assembly was removed, install a new gasket and tighten the nuts/bolts. Place an RTV sealant with a 3/16-inch thickness where the mating surfaces of the oil pan will make contact, and follow the sealant's manufacturer's instruction on assembling and curing time for the material. Insert the front of the oil pan over the engine block, and place the bolts in the holes loosely, and then sequentially tighten the bolts from the center. The rest of the installation also describes the reverse of the removal, however, one has to wait for at least an hour for the sealant to set so that oil can be added. Last but not the least, start the engine and confirm if the oil pressure and leak lights turn off.

    Q:
How to remove the Oil Pan from a Toyota Yaris? Posted by Customer
    A:
Jack up the car's front and support it on axle stands. Remove the engine lower cover panels and drain the engine oil. Remove the engine oil dipstick and the oil pan-to-transmission stiffener plate on automatic models. Detach the bolts and nuts securing the steel oil pan to the aluminum oil pan. Use a tool to break the seal between the pans, then lower the oil pan carefully. Clean the sealant from the oil pan and engine mating faces. Check the oil pick-up strainer. To refit the oil pan, apply RTV sealant to the oil pan sealing surface and bolt holes. Position the oil pan on the engine and secure it hand-tight. Tighten the oil pan nuts/bolts to the specified torque in a diagonal sequence. Refit the oil pan drain plug with a new sealing washer. Lower the car and let the sealant cure before refilling the engine with oil and checking for leaks.
