    Q:
How to spark plug replacement on Toyota Camry? Posted by Customer
    A:
There are three things needed for spark plug replacement, a socket wrench, extension and ratchet. The socket has a rubber grommet lining that protects the porcelain insulator of the spark plug and holds it in place during insertion. In order to check and adjust the spark plug gap, a wire-type feeler gauge is necessary, while a torque wrench is used to tighten the new plugs to the specified torque. When replacing them, ensure they are bought afresh, adjusted properly for gaps and done one by one. Prior to installing these plugs, examine them for manufacturing defects such as cracks in the porcelain insulator. Take a wire gauge of suitable thickness; make sure it fits between electrodes and drags slightly. If there is improper gap, the spark plug should be replaced. Apparently iridium spark plugs cannot have their gaps adjusted because it can damage iridium plating on their electrodes. It is important to remove any engine cover(s) and detach any hoses or other components that block access pathways. For purposes of disconnecting electrical connections from the ignition coil assembly , remove retaining bolts that hold individual coils together . In case present, use air pressure or bicycle pump to blow out dirt or foreign bodies from the spark plug area. Then use an appropriate size socket attached with an extension rod to unscrew each individual spark plug at a time until they are all off. Whether you're going to replace or reuse old ones; take each of them with reference pictures to verify about running state of engine applying any small amount of anti-seize compound on threads around spark plug so as to avoid future damage upon removal From here on out assist in guiding along straight line path which begins with inserting hollow tube made from rubber in order that this material plays role like universal joint thereby ensuring right alignment between plug coming directly out towards towards cylinder head finally install ignition coil and repeat above process for remaining three plugs doing one at a time not two at once so as to avoid confusion of spark plug wires.
