    Q:
How do you remove and install the water pump on Toyota Camry? Posted by Customer
    A:
Pull of the cable from the negative battery terminal and empty the cooling system. For four-cylinder vehicles produced up to 2009, it is necessary to dismantle the covers of the engines, the main radiator support trim cover, the coolant reservoir. Remove the water pump pulley by slackening the bolts that hold the pulley with a pin spanner; do away with the drivebelt and tensioner. Loosen the bolts that hold the pulley and take them off if need be, but with a pin spanner. Disconnect the bolt from the alternator and take off the harness from the clamp on the water pump and harness bracket. Unbolt the water pump housing and pull it off along with the water pump, then check all the sealing surfaces to make sure that they are free of old gasket. This process is the opposite of removal and information should be provided on how tight the fasteners should be turned. Engine cooling system refilling, running of the engine, observation for possible leaks and proper function. Similar to a four-cylinder vehicle, extract the engine covers and the drive belts together with the alternator and tensioner for 2010 and four-cylinder models that came later; isolate and eradicate the mounting bolts and water pump. Remove old gasket, clean all possible sealing surfaces, fit new gasket, and tighten bolts/nuts to the proper prescribed torque. Use water, coolant, and correct mixture and let the engine to run for some time and check if there is any sign of leakage. On V6 models, the engine/transaxle assembly and the alternator should be pulled out, followed by taking off the upper front engine mount bracket and both the drivebelt idler pulley assemblies that should be in a sequential order. Take out also the drivebelt tensioner and the thermostat housing. Engage a special pin-spanner wrench to hold the water pump pulley, thereafter remove the pulley mounting bolts and, lastly, the water pump and its gasket; one has to bear in mind that the bolts differ in the length in order to be effectively reinstalled. Clean all the sealing surfaces, fit a new gasket to the water pump and make sure the torque when fitting is correct. Replace the inlet housing O-ring with a new one, and then set the engine/transaxle assembly in place. Adding coolant, starting the engine, and examining for leaks, and appraising the correct functioning.
