    Q:
How to check and replace the back-up light switch on Toyota Camry? Posted by Customer
    A:
The backup light switch is on the transaxle. If the backup lights don't activate with the ignition on and the shift lever in Reverse, check the ignition switch, GAUGE fuse, bulbs, and wire harness. If the lights remain on, inspect the harness. If one light works, examine its bulb and harness. To test the switch, remove the air filter housing and air inlet, disconnect the connector, and unscrew the switch. Use an ohmmeter to check for continuity when the plunger is depressed.

    Q:
Where is the switch located on the transmission on Toyota Echo? Posted by Customer
    A:
The switch is located on the top of the transmission, behind the shift/selector lever assembly. With the transmission fitted, the switch is partly obscured by the battery tray. The back up light switch is below the battery tray when the transmission is in place. Trace the wiring from the switch, and disconnect it at the in-line connector, which is on the front of the unit. Disconnect the back up light switch wiring plug on the front of the transmission. Unscrew and remove the switch from the top of the transmission, and remove it. Refitting is a reversal of removal. Tighten the switch securely.

    Q:
How do you check and replace the backup light switch on a transaxle on Toyota Corolla? Posted by Customer
    A:
The backup light switch is situated on the transaxle and screws into the top of the transaxle casing. This means that given the ignition key is turned fully 'on' status, pushing the switch handle to 'reverse' should cause the back-up lights to come on. If the lights failed to come on, inspect the ignition switch, the GAUGE fuse, the bulbs and more specifically on the wire harness that goes to the cluster. If there are lights contin- uously, even when shift lever is not in Reverse then it could be that the switch is faulty. If only one light comes on, inspect the bulb and the harness of that light. To test the back-up light switch remove the electrical connector and take out the switch that is attached to the transaxle, and using an ohmmeter you must get continuity if the plunger is pressed in and will be have no continuity if it is released. If the switch does not turn on/off then remove the electrical connector and unscrew the switch from the case. Before installing it, apply the plunger to a new switch, use freshly touched surfaces to short together the switch's terminal ends so that the ohmmeter needle indicates continuity only when the plunger is pressed. Last, reset and firm the new switch into place.

    Q:
How do you check and replace the backup light switch on a transaxle on Toyota Matrix? Posted by Customer
    A:
The backup light switch is installed on the housing of transaxle. Inserting the ignition key in the On position the backup lights should turn on when positioning the shift lever in reverse. If the above lights do not light up, look at the ignition switch, the GAUGE fuse, the bulbs, and wire harness. This could be caused by a faulty switch where even if the lights are on all the time even when the shift lever is not on reverse then the switch could be bad. If only one light has been switched on, check the bulb for that light and a harness. To inspect the backup light switch, first, disconnect the electrical connector located at the top of the transaxle then remove the switch by undoing the nut on top. It is recommended to make sure the plunger is depressed and check for continuity and when the plunger is released, there should be no continuity. If this switch does not work properly, replace it with removing the electrical connector and the switch from the case by unscrewing it. Before installing the new switch, apply the plunger of the particular switch with the ohmmeter across the switch terminals; there must be continuity only when the plunger is pressed. Last but not the least, place the new switch and make sure that it is firmly fixed.

    Q:
How Do You Troubleshoot and Test a Back-Up Light Switch and System on 1997 through 2001 Toyota Solara? Posted by Customer
    A:
With the key in On, put the shift lever in Reverse to check if back-up lights come on. If not, inspect the ignition switch, GAUGE fuse, bulbs, and wire harness. If lights stay on constantly, examine the wire harness. If only one light works, check its bulb and harness. To test the back-up light switch, disconnect the connector, unscrew the switch from the transaxle top, and use an ohmmeter to check continuity when the plunger is depressed/released. If the switch malfunctions, replace it.
