The VSS also known as Vehicle Speed Sensor which is located on the upper part of the transaxle is an electrical circuit part that create an oscillating voltage in the circuit as the shaft of the sensor turns. The PCM watches these voltage pulses to help control the fuel and ignition also transaxle shifting. To sort the VSS, the first step is to seize the electrical connection together with the sensor to be disconnected from the transaxle, next is the removal and replacement of the O-ring before reinstalling the VSS in the reverse order.

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is located on the transaxle and generates a voltage signal when it rotates. This signal is used by the PCM to control fuel, ignition, and transaxle shifting. To check the VSS, disconnect the connector and measure the voltage with a voltmeter. If no voltage, check for an open circuit. To further test, raise the front of the vehicle, secure it on jack stands, and block the rear wheels. Reconnect the connector and back probe with suitable probes. With the ignition on and engine off, manually rotate one wheel while holding the other steady. The voltmeter should display a pulsing voltage between zero and 11 volts. If not, replace the sensor by disconnecting the connector, removing the hold-down bolt, and pulling out the VSS. Replace the O-ring and reverse the installation.

Each wheel typically has a designated wheel speed sensor that generates a signal in the form of a low-voltage electrical current or frequency when the wheel is turning. This signal is proportional to the wheel speed and is interpreted by an electronic module (computer).

Remove the timing belt cover.

The next step is to remove the VSS from the transaxle.

To replace the VSS, disconnect the electrical connector, remove the hold-down bolt, and replace the O-ring. Installation is the reverse of removal.

The trouble codes can be cleared by jumping terminals on the data link connector and depressing the brake pedal multiple times.

The U660E/U760E 6-speed transaxles only have one speed sensor.

Both sensors are located on the left side of the transmission. The input speed sensor is at the front end, near the bellhousing, while the output speed sensor is at the rear of the transmission on the extension housing (for 2WD models) or the front left corner of the transfer case (for 4WD models).

Complete the replacement process by following the removal steps in reverse order. This entails reattaching the speed sensor, securing the mounting bolt, connecting the electrical connector, and finalizing any other steps in the reverse sequence.

The actuator assembly, consisting of an electric hydraulic pump and solenoid valves, is responsible for providing hydraulic pressure and modulating brake line pressure.

The blinking pattern indicates the diagnostic code. For example, a code 34 will blink three times, pause, and then blink four times. If the system is normal, the light will blink once every 0.5 seconds.

To replace the VSS, first remove the air filter housing. Then, disconnect the electrical connector from the VSS. After that, remove the VSS from the transaxle. Replace the 0-ring by removing the 0-ring from the speed sensor. Finally, installation is the reverse of removal.

The ABS control unit has a built-in self-diagnosis system that detects malfunctions in the system sensors and alerts the driver by illuminating an ABS warning light. The computer stores the failure code until the diagnostic system is cleared or the malfunction is repaired.

To retrieve the ABS trouble codes, turn the ignition key to the OFF position, install a jumper wire onto terminals TC and CG of the DLC3 diagnostic link connector, and turn the ignition key ON. The ABS light will display the trouble codes through a series of blinks.

Installation is the reverse of removal.

The ABS is designed to maintain vehicle steerability, directional stability, and optimum deceleration under severe braking conditions and on most road surfaces.

The knock sensors on V6 engines are located on each cylinder bank below the intake manifold.
