    Q:
What is the function and replacement process of the Throttle Position Sensor on Toyota Corolla? Posted by Customer
    A:
The TPS on the models of 2003 and 2004 are on the firewall side of the throttle body; it is usually fixed under a glove box with two push fasteners of the cover. Problems with the TPS or motor can cause the fuel injectors to 'blurp' fuel, or to 'pulsate', and the engine will idle roughly due to the interference of the PCM with the throttle position. The PCM constantly checks the input given by the accelerator pedal position sensor with the actual throttle position. To remove a defective TPS, the negative battery cable should be removed; thereafter, the electrical connector at the TPS must be unconnected, the two mounting screws for the TPS had to be loosened, while the TPS, on the other hand, had to be connected abreast the above-stated process in order to be installed. Starting from the models from 2005 onwards, the throttle body is operated by the electric throttle control motor, and the TPS is part of this motor; therefore, if there are any problems with either the throttle control motor or the TPS, the entire throttle motor would have to be changed.

    Q:
What is the location and function of the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) on Toyota Matrix? Posted by Customer
    A:
The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) on 2004 and earlier engines is attached to the firewall side of the throttle body. Problems with the TPS or motor can cause intermittent bursts of fuel from the injectors and an unstable idle because the PCM thinks the throttle is moving. The PCM is constantly comparing the driver's input from the accelerator pedal position sensor to the actual throttle position at the throttle body. A problem with the TPS circuits will set a diagnostic trouble code. To replace a defective TPS, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Disconnect the electrical connector at the TPS and remove the two mounting screws. Installation is the reverse of removal. On 2005 and later engines, the throttle body is operated by an electric throttle control motor instead of a cable. On these models, the TPS is part of the throttle motor assembly and cannot be replaced separately. If there are problems with the throttle control motor or the TPS, the complete throttle body must be replaced.
