    Q:
How to replace and adjust the Park/Neutral Position switch on Toyota Camry? Posted by Customer
    A:
The Park/Neutral Position switch controls the Park/Neutral function, backup light switch, and gear position information. It only allows engine start in Park or Neutral. To replace the switch on 2009 and earlier four-cylinder models, raise the vehicle, disconnect the connector, remove the lever retaining nut, lock plate, switch retaining bolts, and the switch. For V6 models and 2010 and later four-cylinder models, remove the engine cover, air filter housing, transaxle cable bracket clip, control cable retaining nut, wiring harness clamp, and connector. Then remove the control shaft lever nut washer and lever, switch retaining bolts, and clean the switch area before removing the switch. To adjust, loosen the bolts, align the switch, and tighten the bolts.

    Q:
What functions does the transmission range sensor incorporate, and how does it interact with the PCM on Toyota Corolla? Posted by Customer
    A:
The Park/Neutral function falls under the transmission range sensor, the back-up light switch, and it sends transmission range gear information to the PCM. This function ensures that the engine does not start when selected in any other position other than Park, Neutral and if it starts in any other position say reverse, the switch has to be adjusted. The transmission position switch features as an information switch for transmitting details of the position to the Electronic Controlled Transaxle Powertrain Control Module. When the engagement of the shift lever it positions the Park/Neutral position switch to send a voltage signal to the PCM. As for the switch replacing, lift the front of the vehicle and install it on jackstands, then, unplug the electrical connector, and unscrew the nut and lock plate of the manual lever. If explicable, bend the tabs on the lock plate flat against the body before extraction. Depower the switch and unscrew the electrical connector which is followed by the retainer bolts and switch. The last step of the whole process is the installation of the switch going in the opposite order to the removal to make sure it is set correctly. For adjustment, the switch retaining bolts must be loosened and the switch rotated until the flat of the switch shaft lies in it and when it is in the neutral basic line it must be held in place and the bolts tightened. The direction is controlled by an arrow as on most locks and will show when the weaver is correctly positioned.
