    Q:
How to remove, inspect, and install the strut assembly on Toyota Prius? Posted by Customer
    A:
For the wiper motor and link assembly to be pulled out, there is a cowl brace as well as the cowl top panel to be pulled out especially for 2010 and later models. Unscrew the wheel lug nuts, lift the automobile and put it on jack stands appropriately before pulling out the wheel. Loosen the brake hose bracket and then pull it away from the strut and disconnect the speed sensor harness by using the allen key to remove the clamp bracket bolt. Lose the nut on the stabilizer as this will fix the stabilizer bar and let it hang free. Note the orientation of the strut to the steering knuckle, and the locations of the bolts, as it may have been necessary to install special camber adjusting bolts. Shift the strut to knuckle nuts and knock out the bolts using hammer to punch them out. Very gently, pull the strut away from the steering knuckle, they are not to stress the inner CV joint or to allow the steering knuckle to fall out away from you. Secure the strut and spring assembly, then loosen the three strut-to-body nuts, but do not separate the center nut at this time; pull the assembly out of the fenderwell. Examine the strut body for such signs as fluid leakage, dents, cracks, and so on and examine the coil spring for such signs as chips, cracks in the coating, while examining the spring seat for cuts and deterioration. If any problems are identified, move on to the next step, which is, disassembling the strut. For installation, guide the strut assembly into the fenderwell, use the upper mounting studs to pass through the body holes and tighten the nuts in order to avoid dropping the strut. Engage the steering knuckle to the strut flange by sliding it in and install the bolts, ensure the match marks are correct and tighten the bolts. Join the brake hose bracket and speed sensor wiring harness bracket neatly as much as possible. Lastly, reintall the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle and though the lug nuts, and finally tighten the upper mounting nuts before taking the car for a front-end alignment check and adjustment if required.
