If there is carbon and residue build-up, the air intake duct should be removed and cleaned with aerosol carburetor cleaner.

Remove the air intake duct from the throttle body and check for carbon and residue build-up. Clean it with aerosol carburetor cleaner if necessary.

1. After the engine is cool, slowly remove the cooling system pressure cap to verify that no pressure remains. 2. Remove the V-bank cover cap nuts and the V-bank cover. 3. Remove the intake duct and resonator. 4. Disconnect the accelerator cable and the Throttle Valve (TV) cable. 5. Remove the bolt securing the throttle body to the bracket and disconnect the electrical connectors from the throttle position sensor and idle air control valve. 6. Clamp off and disconnect the coolant bypass hoses, air assist hose, fuel vapor feed hose, and vacuum hoses from the throttle body. 7. Remove the nuts and bolts securing the throttle body to the intake plenum (or screws for 2001-2003 models). 8. Installation is the reverse of removal, using new gaskets and checking the coolant level.
