Rack and Pinion Boot is another component that has to be replaced if it is torn since it can let dirt and moisture compromise the steering gear. First, unscrew the wheel lug nuts, lift the car, and effectually position it on jackstands, then take off the front wheels. Next, unbolt the tie-rod end and the locknut. Next, unwind the boot clamps; while the outer clamp must be unscrewed using pliers, the inner clamp has to be chopped off. Slide the other end of the boot off the tie-rod. Disassembly is the direct opposite of assembly; new clamps have to be placed at the boot.

The outer clamp on the steering gear boot can be removed with a pair of pliers, while the inner clamp must be cut off. After that, slide the boot off the tie-rod.
