Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands before removing the wheels. Next, take off the engine under cover and drain the lubricant from the differential. Disconnect the front driveshaft from the front differential and support the front end of the driveshaft with a piece of wire. For T100 models, disconnect the inner CV joints from the axleshaft flanges and support the inner ends of the driveaxles with wire. For Tacoma and 4Runner models, remove the driveaxles. On T100 models, disconnect the vacuum hoses and unplug the 4WD indicator switch electrical connector, then remove the crossmember. For Tacoma and 4Runner models, disconnect the breather hose, remove the single bolt retaining the metal vacuum tubing, and detach the tubing assembly from the differential. On models with ADD, detach the two bolts attaching the vacuum tubing to the actuator, unplug the actuator electrical connector, and detach the actuator vacuum hoses. Support the differential with a transmission jack or a floor jack. For T100 models, remove the differential front mounting bolt and nut, then remove the left and rear mounting bolts before lowering the differential. For Tacoma and 4Runner models, remove the rear mounting nut, then remove the two front mounting bolts and nuts before lowering the differential. Installation is the reverse of removal.
