Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. If the stereo in your vehicle is equipped with an anti-theft system, check the information on page 0-15 at the front before detaching the cable. Unplug the electrical connector from the compressor. Detach the two flexible hoses from the compressor service valves. Cap the open fittings immediately to keep moisture out of the system. Loosen the drivebelt. Remove the compressor mounting bolts. Remove the compressor. Note: Keep the compressor level during handling and storage. If the compressor seized or you find metal particles in the refrigerant lines, the system must be flushed out by an air conditioning technician and the receiver/drier must be replaced. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Make sure you tighten the compressor mounting bolts and the valve-to-hose fittings securely and adjust the drivebelt to the proper tension. Connect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery. Take the vehicle to a dealer service department or an automotive air conditioning specialist and have the air conditioning system evacuated, recharged and leak tested.
