Before that, one is required to slacken the wheel lug nuts, engage the parking break, lift the front part of the car and jack it up with special jackstands, then detach the front wheel. Next tighten the tie-rod with locking pliers or a wrench then loosen the jam nut just enough to enable marking of the position of the tie-rod with the threads of the end. It is recommended to first take out the cotter pin and then loosen the tie-rod castle nut half a turn without breaking it loose from the tie-rod end, after that the tie-rod end needs to be taken off from the steering knuckle arm with the aid of a puller after which the castle nut can be taken off completely. Remove the tie-rod nut and unscrew the tie-rod end from the tie-rod counting the turns so that it may be replaced later. For installation, sliding on the tie-rod end to the marked position and driving the tie-rod stud through the through hole in the steering knuckle arm then torquing the jam nut. Screw the castle nut to the stud until it is adequately closed and put in a new cotter pin; if the nut needs to be moved to align the hole with a slot, do so. Last but not the least, fix the wheel and lug nuts, lower the car, and tight lug nuts and lastly check the alignment and correct it if required.
