    Q:
How to check for fan clutch and cooling fan failure and how do you remove and install a fan clutch and cooling fan on 2005 through 2009 Toyota Tacoma? Posted by Customer
    A:
To check for fan clutch failure, look for symptoms such as continuous noisy operation, looseness, vibration, or silicone fluid or grease leaking from the clutch. For cold engine checks, rock the fan back and forth by hand to check for excessive bearing play, turn the blades by hand to ensure the fan turns freely, and visually inspect for substantial fluid or grease leakage. For hot engine checks, start the engine and allow it to warm up to its normal operating temperature, then turn off the ignition switch and turn the fan by hand to feel for resistance. To remove the fan clutch, remove the radiator support shield and fan shroud upper mounting bolts, separate any hoses and harness wires from the lower section of the fan shroud, remove the fan clutch mounting nuts, and lift the fan and shroud from the engine compartment. To install, simply reverse the removal steps.
