The flywheel, which is used on manual transmission models, can only be accessed by removing either the engine or the transmission. It is important to visually inspect the flywheel for any cracks, hot spots, or other obvious defects. If there are slight imperfections, a machine shop can remove them by machining the surface flat and smooth. To detach the flywheel, the bolts that attach it to the engine need to be removed, and a large screwdriver can be used to jam the starter ring gear while loosening the mounting bolts. It is crucial to support the flywheel properly as the final bolt is removed to avoid dropping it due to its weight. During installation, it is essential to note that the flywheel fits over an alignment dowel, allowing it to go on only one way. To ensure secure attachment, thread locking compound should be used on the bolts, and they should be tightened in a crisscross pattern.
