Before proceeding to the removal of the cylinder head, unbend the negative connection terminal of the battery and secure the anti theft code for the stereo in case there is one. Remove the coolant from it and engine block and the radiator, then drain the engine oil and remove the O filter. Subsequently, after loosening a few additional bolts, one can pull out the throttle body, air intake plenum, fuel injectors, fuel rail, intake manifold, and exhaust manifold; it is noteworthy that the latter two are connected to the cylinder head but can be removed together with it if this is more convenient. Advance to the removal of the alternator and the distributor next and lastly, slide the sprocket off the end of the intake camshaft and set it aside on the timing chain guides, and then come the camshafts and the valve lifters. Loosen the upper bracket of the power steering pump with the steering wheel nut and without removing the hoses, set it aside. The remaining parts should be unlabeled and stripped on the head to include coolant fittings and brackets as well as tubes, cables, hoses and the ground strap bolt from the cylinder head as well as disconnect the wiring harness connectors on various sensors. Take out the bolt located at the end of the dipstick tube and separate the tube from the cylinder head, also, remove the two bolts connecting the timing cover to the cylinder head. If the fasteners are extremely tight, turn them in a clockwise direction in stages of 1/4 turn and continue this process until you can turn them with your hands; ensure that you follow the procedure of loosening the cylinder head bolts in the correct sequence to ensure that you do not cause warping or cracking to the cylinder head. Raise the cylinder head off the engine block if needed, for use of a large screwdriver or pry bar and strip all external parts for cleaning. Clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and block for the installation always use a gasket scraper and clean with lacquer thinner or acetone. Mating surfaces: Ensure that there's no damage on the areas that are to mate and if there's then correct it. Follow the threads in the cylinder head bolt holes and blown out with compressed air. Re-insert the threads on each bolt and place back the components, which were taken off the cylinder head. Align the location of the new gasket to the dowel pins in the block; use the hydraulic lifter to gently set the cylinder head on the block on top of the gasket; apply clean engine oil to the threads of the bolts and heads of each of the bolts and then tighten the bolts in their original position. If so, make three successive turns of the bolts in accord with the recommended sequence; in the final stages, introduce an extra 90-degrees of torque. Afterwards, slot in the cylinder head-to-timing cover bolts and tighten them as much as possible to the recommended torque. Apart from the above steps, the subsequent steps are the reversal of the removal process, checking and adjusting of the necessary valves, refilling the cooling system with water and anti-freeze mixture, fitting of a new oil filter, re-filling of the engine oil and road testing involving checking for any leakage, adjusting the ignition timing as well as road testing of the car.
