For hood removal, start by placing protective blankets over the fenders and cowl area. Disconnect interfering cables or wires, and detach windshield washer tubing from the hood's nozzles. Mark the hood hinge for alignment, then have an assistant support the hood's weight and, in Avalon models, remove support struts. Unbolt the hinge-to-hood bolts and lift the hood off. For installation, align the hinge bolts with the marked positions. To adjust the hood, shift its position fore-and-aft or side-to-side by moving the hinge plate slot after loosening bolts or nuts; mark around the hinge plate to gauge movement, and tighten bolts after adjusting. Hood latch assembly can also be adjusted up and down and side-to-side on the radiator support after installation for secure and flush closure. Adjust hood bumpers on the radiator support to ensure flush closure, and periodically lubricate the hood latch assembly and hinges with white, lithium-base grease to prevent wear and binding.
