    Q:
How to replace brake pads on fixed and floating calipers on 2005 through 2009 Toyota Tacoma? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace Brake Caliper on different models, follow these guidelines. For 4WD and Prerunner models with fixed calipers, start by removing two-thirds of the brake fluid from the reservoir, loosening the wheel lug nuts, and raising the vehicle. Position a drain pan under the caliper assembly and clean it with a brake system cleaner. Inspect the brake disc, remove retaining clips from pad pins, release the anti-rattle spring from each brake pad plate, and remove the pad pins and anti-rattle spring. Depress the pistons into their bores by squeezing the outboard brake pad against the caliper and removing the outboard brake pad. Clean brake pad plate contact surfaces and lubricate the back of the new brake pad with high-temperature brake grease. Install an anti-squeal shim and the outboard brake pad set. Repeat this process for the inboard brake pad, cleaning, lubricating, and installing correctly. Inspect pad pins, pin clips, and anti-rattle springs for wear or damage and replace them if necessary. Reinstall pad pins, anti-rattle springs, and pin clips. Install the wheel, lower the vehicle, tighten lug nuts, apply and release the brake pedal several times to bring pads into contact with brake discs, and check brake fluid level. For 2WD models with floating calipers, push the piston back into the bore to create space for the new brake pads, detach the Brake Line from the shock absorber bracket and remove the caliper lower mounting bolt. Pivot the caliper and secure it with a wire to prevent damage to the flexible brake hose. Remove the pads and pad support plates. Clean the caliper mounting bracket, inspect the lower slide pin, apply high-temperature brake grease to it, and reinstall it. Clean and lubricate the upper sliding pin, install clean pad support plates, lubricate the back of each pad, and install clean anti-squeal shims and pad wear indicators. Pivot the caliper back, and reinstall the lower mounting bolt, wheel, and lug nuts. Lower the vehicle, tighten lug nuts, and perform brake pedal operation. Finally, check the brake fluid level and test the brakes before driving.
