    Q:
How do you remove and reinstall an oil pan on Toyota Celica? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, set the parking brake, and block the rear wheels. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the splash shields under the engine if equipped, then drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter along with the oil dipstick. Disconnect the front exhaust pipe from the engine and remove the clamp behind the engine to allow the pipe to hang down. Unbolt the crossmember connecting the lower suspension mounts and remove it from under the oil pan, including unbolting the rear crossmember and removing the engine mount nuts, as well as unbolting the front mount and removing the two front crossmember bolts. Remove the block-to-transaxle brace and detach the oil pan by removing the bolts; if it's stuck, carefully pry it loose with a small screwdriver or putty knife, ensuring not to damage the mating surfaces to prevent oil leaks. Use a scraper to eliminate all traces of old gasket material and sealant from the block and oil pan, then clean the mating surfaces with lacquer thinner or acetone, ensuring the threaded bolt holes in the block are clean. Check the oil pan flange for distortion, particularly around the bolt holes, and if necessary, flatten and restore the gasket surface using a hammer on a block of wood. Inspect the oil pump pick-up tube assembly for cracks and a blocked strainer, reinstalling it if removed with a new O-ring or gasket, tightening the fasteners to the specified torque. Apply a 5 mm wide bead of sealant to the oil pan flange, ensuring the oil pan is installed within 3 minutes of application. Carefully position the oil pan on the engine block, install the bolts, and tighten them to the specified torque, working from the center out. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring to add oil and install a new oil filter before running the engine to check for oil pressure and leaks.

    Q:
How do you properly remove and reinstall an oil pan in Four cylinder engine on Toyota MR2? Posted by Customer
    A:
Warm the engine and drain the engine oil, then raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Remove the exhaust pipe and disconnect the oil cooler hose from the short metal pipe protruding from the banjo fitting on the front side of the pan, ensuring to tie the hose out of the way with the open end higher than the oil cooler to prevent oil from dripping. Remove all 19 bolts and both nuts from the oil pan, then carefully pry the pan loose from the bottom edge of the engine block and the oil pump housing, taking care not to bend the oil pan flange. Remove the oil strainer mounting nuts and bolts, then take out the strainer, which is attached to the block with two bracket bolts and to the oil pump housing with two pickup tube bolts. Pry the baffle plate loose from the block without warping it, and using a razor blade and scraper, remove all old ATV sealant material from the mating surface of the block, both sides of the baffle plate, and the oil pan flange. Wash the baffle plate, strainer, and oil pan in clean non-residue solvent and blow dry, avoiding solvents that affect painted surfaces. Apply a 3 to 5 mm wide bead of ATV sealant to the mating surface of the block, then position the baffle plate and oil strainer, using a new gasket between the pickup tube flange and the oil pump housing, and tighten the strainer mounting bolts and nuts to the specified torque. Apply a 3 to 5 mm wide bead of ATV sealant to the oil pan flange, ensuring the bead is offset approximately 6 mm at the end of the pan that bolts to the underside of the rear main oil seal retainer. Place the pan in position, apply a thin bead of sealant around each mounting bolt hole, then install all 19 bolts and two nuts, tightening them to the specified torque. Attach the oil cooler hose to the banjo fitting on the front side of the pan, install the exhaust system, add the specified oil to the engine, start the engine, and check the pan flange and oil cooler hose fitting for leaks.

    Q:
What is the next step after cleaning the pan for the 1986 Toyota MR2? Posted by Customer
    A:
Install the pan with a new gasket. Note: There is a magnet in the bottom of the pan which prevents harmful metal particles from contaminating the fluid. Make sure it is installed before the pan is bolted to the transaxle.
