Toyota 12102-31010 Pan Sub-Assy, Oil

Remove the bolts and nuts that secure oil pan No. 2 to the larger cast aluminum oil pan. If it is stuck due to RTV sealant, tap it loose with a rubber-tipped mallet or carefully cut the sealant with a putty knife and hammer.

Remove the engine from the vehicle.

Strike the oil pan with a soft-face hammer. If it's stuck, tap a knife blade into the joint and hammer it around until the seal is broken. Do not pry the oil pan or drive a screwdriver into the joint.

Remove the engine. Note that it is possible to lift the engine above the crossmember enough to get clearance for removing the oil pan without completely removing the engine from the engine bay.

Drain the engine oil and remove the splash shield from underneath the engine.

1. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter. 2. Remove the engine from the vehicle. 3. For 2UZ-FE engines, remove the timing belt, the number 1 and number 2 idler pulleys, the crankshaft pulley, and the crankshaft sensor. Note: This step is unnecessary if the oil pump isn't being removed. 4. Remove the oil dipstick tube from the engine. 5. Remove the oil filter, oil cooler, and oil filter bracket assembly from the engine. 6. Remove the bolts and nuts securing the lower steel oil pan and detach it, using a small screwdriver or putty knife if necessary. 7. Remove the baffle plate from the bottom of the engine. 8. Remove the bolts and nuts securing the upper oil pan to the engine block and detach it, using a small screwdriver or putty knife if necessary. 9. Remove the oil pump strainer.
