Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. On 4WD and PreRunner models, remove the lower engine splash shield at the front. Remove the drivebelt. Extract the power steering fluid from the reservoir using a suction tool or large syringe, or by disconnecting the fluid hose and draining it into a container. Disconnect the electrical connector from the pressure switch, and on V6 engine models, detach the wiring harness clip from the bracket on the pump. Position a drain pan under the power steering pump, disconnect the pressure line and fluid hose, and plug all openings to prevent contaminants from entering the system. Discard the sealing washer(s). Remove the pump mounting fasteners and lift the pump from the engine compartment, ensuring no fluid spills on painted surfaces. Installation is the reverse of removal, using new sealing washers on both sides of the pressure line fitting, and tighten the pressure line banjo bolt and pump mounting fasteners to the specified torque values. Fill the power steering reservoir with the recommended fluid and bleed the system.
