Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the fasteners to the specified torque.

Keep the idler pulley assemblies in order and note that the larger washer goes under the head of the pulley bolt, while the smaller goes between the pulley and the engine block.

1. Remove the engine covers, radiator support trim cover, and the inner fender splash shield on the right side. 2. Remove the drive belts. 3. Remove the alternator and tensioner for the alternator belt. 4. Remove the water pump mounting fasteners, then remove the water pump from the housing. 5. Thoroughly clean all sealing surfaces, removing all traces of old gasket. 6. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the fasteners to the torque. 7. Refill the cooling system, run the engine, and check for leaks and proper operation.

Bearing wear can be felt if the water pump pulley is rocked up and down.

With the engine running and warmed to normal operating temperature, you can squeeze the upper radiator hose. If the water pump is working properly, a pressure surge should be felt as the hose is released.

In these models, you need to remove the timing belt, camshaft sprockets, water inlet pipe, thermostat, number 3 timing belt cover, and then the water pump.
