    Q:
How do you replace the front crankshaft seal in V6 engine on 2003 through 2009 Toyota 4Runner? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the crankshaft pulley. Slowly loosen the seal found at the timing chain cover by using a screwdriver or the seal removal tool, it is advisable to trim the lip of the crankshaft seal and put tape around the screwdriver blade to avoid spoiling the housing bore or the crankshaft, as doing this may lead to new seal leak. Lubricate and clean the bore in the timing chain cover and make sure the lip and outer edge of the new seal is also lubricated with engine oil or multi purpose grease. Using a seal driver or a socket with an outside diameter slightly smaller than that of the seal, carefully drive the new seal into place with a hammer, this should result to the square insertion of the seal and its proper flush setting on the surface of the timing chain cover, also make sure that the spring is well fixed after fitting the new seal. The crankshaft pulley should also be refitted, and the bolt should be tightened to the required level of turn. Last, turning on the engine and try to look at the front sealing area to determine if oil leakage is apparent.

    Q:
Can the seal be replaced without removing the oil pan or seal retainer for the 2004 Toyota 4Runner? Posted by Customer
    A:
Yes, the seal can be replaced without removing the oil pan or seal retainer. However, this method is not recommended because the lip of the seal is quite stiff, which may lead to cocking the seal in the retainer bore or damaging it during installation.

    Q:
How should the crankshaft seal be removed for the 2004 Toyota 4Runner? Posted by Customer
    A:
Note how far the seal is recessed in the bore, then cut away the seal lip with a razor knife. After that, cut away the crankshaft seal lip and carefully pry the seal out of the engine with a screwdriver or seal removal tool. If using a screwdriver, wrap tape around the tip to avoid scratching the housing bore or damaging the crankshaft.

    Q:
How do you install the new seal for the 2008 Toyota Sequoia? Posted by Customer
    A:
Using a seal driver or a socket with an outside diameter slightly smaller than the seal, carefully drive the new seal into place with a hammer. Ensure it is installed squarely and to the same depth as the original. If a socket isn't available, a short section of large diameter pipe can also be used. Check the seal after installation to ensure the spring didn't pop out of place.

    Q:
What steps should I follow after removing the oil pan-to-seal retainer bolts for the 2014 Toyota Sequoia? Posted by Customer
    A:
After removing the two rearmost oil pan-to-seal retainer bolts, break the seal between the rear of the oil pan and the bottom of the seal retainer with a putty knife. Then, remove the retainer-to-engine block bolts, detach the seal retainer, and remove all the old gasket material. Also, remove the sealant from the top of the oil pan flange. Note: Cover the open area of the oil pan with clean rags to keep debris out while bracing the pan flange.
