Camshaft Position Sensor are utilized on four-cylinder models, while VVT sensors are utilized on V6 engine models. For 2009 and earlier models, the sensor is located on the left side of the cylinder head below the valve cover. To remove, begin by removing the air filter housing, followed by disconnecting the electrical connector. Unbolt the sensor and remove. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 2010 and later models, the sensor(s) are mounted on the top of the valve cover. To remove them, the harness electrical connector needs to be disconnected, followed by removing the mounting screws and taking out the camshaft sensor(s) from the valve cover. Installation is the reverse of removal.

The camshaft position sensor determines the position of the cylinder for sequential fuel injection signals to each cylinder and is mounted on the cylinder head near the intake runner for cylinder no. 4, secured with one bolt. A problem in the camshaft sensor circuit will set a diagnostic trouble code. Ensure the ignition key is in the OFF position, then remove the engine cover. Disconnect the harness connector, remove the mounting bolt, and take out the camshaft sensor from the cylinder head. Installation is the reverse of removal, using a new O-ring lightly coated with engine oil.

The Crankshaft Position(CKP) sensor determines the timing for the fuel injection and ignition on each cylinder. The crankshaft sensor is mounted on the timing chain cover next to the crankshaft pulley. A problem in the crankshaft sensor circuit will set a diagnostic trouble code. Loosen the right front wheel lug nuts. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel and the inner fender shield. Remove the two bolts(one secures the sensor, the other is close by and secures the harness) and detach the sensor. At the upper part of the timing chain cover, disconnect the harness connector and remove the harness and sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to use a new O-ring on the sensor, lightly coated with engine oil.

The camshaft position sensor affects the position for constant fuel injection in each cylinder. On four-cylinder engines, it is on the back of the cylinder head, while V6 engines have it on the front. If there is a problem with the camshaft sensor circuits, it will send a diagnostic trouble code. To check the camshaft sensor, begin by disconnecting the electrical connector at the sensor. By following these steps, you can effectively access and work with the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensors on both four-cylinder and V6 models.

For the front CMP sensor on 3.0L and 3.3L engines, disconnect the electrical connector and remove its mounting bolt.
