    Q:
How do you check and replace the crankshaft position sensor (CKP) on Toyota Sienna? Posted by Customer
    A:
The crankshaft position sensor (CKP) times the fuel injection and ignition on the cylinders and if there is a problem area in the relaying of the circuits a DTC is stored. To test the crankshaft sensor disconnect the sensor from the connector and with an ohmmeter test the terminals; because of the location, it is better to test it on bench. This test deals mainly with the crankshaft sensor and if this test yields the right result, this may be due to harm and or damage on the harness or possibly the PCM which can only be diagnosed by a dealer service department or better still a fully equipped repair store. For replacement, first, it is advisable to remove the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. For the 2006 and prior models, the right inner fender splash shield must be pulled out and for the 2007 and onward models, the air conditioning compressor should be taken off. After that, it will be necessary to pull up the crankshaft position electrical connector, relinquish the bolt, and, therefore, separate the sensor. Installation of the pipe is done in the reverse order as that adopted while removing it.

    Q:
What is the function and location of the crankshaft position sensor on 1997 through 2001 Toyota Solara? Posted by Customer
    A:
The crankshaft position sensor (CKP) is responsible for determining the timing of fuel injection and ignition on each cylinder. In four-cylinder models, the sensor is located under the timing belt cover, while in V6 models, it is mounted outside the cover above the crankshaft pulley. To check the sensor, disconnect the electrical connector and use an ohmmeter to probe the terminals. If the test results are correct, there may be an issue with the harness or the PCM, which should be diagnosed if necessary. Removal of the sensor requires removing the timing belt cover on four-cylinder models and the inner fender shield on V6 models, disconnecting the electrical connector, and removing the bolt to detach the sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal.

    A:
Installation is the reverse of removal.

    Q:
Where is the CKP sensor located for the 2006 Toyota Avalon? Posted by Customer
    A:
The sensor is mounted on the timing chain cover next to the crankshaft pulley.

    Q:
How do you access the CKP sensor on the 2014 Toyota Highlander? Posted by Customer
    A:
On 2GR-FKS models, raise the right side of the vehicle on jackstands, remove the left exhaust manifold, engine oil cooler hose bracket nut, and sensor shield bolts. Slide out the bracket from under the oil cooler hoses, disconnect the sensor's electrical connector, remove the sensor, and apply clean engine oil to the O-ring before reinstalling and tightening the retaining bolt securely. By following these steps, you can effectively access and work with the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensors on both four-cylinder and V6 models.
