To disconnect the CKP sensor, begin by unplugging the cable from the negative battery terminal. The sensor is located on the timing chain cover next to the crankshaft pulley. Then, unplug the electrical connector, and pull out the sensor and harness. Lastly, remove the crankshaft position sensor retaining bolt and sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring that the CKP sensor retaining bolt is tightened securely.

The Crankshaft Position Sensor is located at the front lower left corner of the engine. To replace it, first disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Remove the engine under-cover. On V6 models, remove the alternator and the bolt that secures the air conditioning suction line, disconnect the electrical connector from the air conditioning compressor, and unbolt the compressor. On V6 and 2UZ-FE V8 engines, disconnect the CKP sensor electrical connector. On 1UR-FE, 3UR-FE, and 3UR-FBE V8 engines, remove the sensor protector mounting bolts and protector from the driver's side lower rear corner of the engine, then disconnect the sensor electrical connector. Remove the CKP sensor retaining bolt. Finally, installation is the reverse of removal, making sure to tighten the CKP sensor retaining bolt securely.

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.

Remove the drive belt and alternator, disconnect the CKP sensor electrical connector, remove the harness clamps and bracket, and then detach the sensor and harness.

On 2GR-FKS models, raise the right side of the vehicle on jackstands, remove the left exhaust manifold, engine oil cooler hose bracket nut, and sensor shield bolts. Slide out the bracket from under the oil cooler hoses, disconnect the sensor's electrical connector, remove the sensor, and apply clean engine oil to the O-ring before reinstalling and tightening the retaining bolt securely. By following these steps, you can effectively access and work with the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensors on both four-cylinder and V6 models.

This test checks only the crankshaft sensor. If the test results are correct, there may be a problem with the harness or the PCM. If necessary, have the PCM diagnosed by a dealer service department or other properly equipped repair facility.

Remove the CKP sensor retaining bolt and then remove the CKP sensor. Be sure to remove and discard the old CKP sensor O-ring and always use a new O-ring when installing the CKP sensor.
