    Q:
How to properly lubricate Drive Shaft on 2005 through 2009 Toyota Tacoma? Posted by Customer
    A:
To properly lubricate your vehicle, you will need the recommended lubricants and fluids as specified in the Specifications. Additionally, you will require a grease gun, engine oil, graphite spray, grease, and a grease gun for chassis and body lubrication. Look under the vehicle for grease fittings on the driveline components, specifically on the drive shaft universal joints and slip yokes for 4WD models. To access the underside of the vehicle, raise it with a jack and secure it with jackstands. If you plan to remove the wheels for tire rotation or brake inspection, loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is still on the ground. Before starting, clean the grease gun nozzle and wipe it with a rag. Crawl under the vehicle and begin lubricating the driveshaft universal joints by pumping grease until it comes out from the seals. Wipe the area around the grease fitting, then squeeze the trigger on the grease gun to force grease into the component. Continue pumping until grease oozes out of the bearing cup seals. If it escapes around the nozzle, reposition it securely. Repeat this process for all fittings. Lubricate the driveshaft slip yoke by pumping grease until it comes out of the slip joint seal. While under the vehicle, clean and lubricate the parking brake cable, cable guides, and levers using chassis grease. Lubricate the contact points on the steering knuckle stop and adjustment bolt if applicable. Open the hood and apply chassis grease to the hood latch mechanism while an assistant pulls the hood release lever. Lubricate all hinges (door, hood, etc.) with engine oil. Key lock cylinders can be lubricated with spray-on graphite or silicone lubricant, and the door weatherstripping should be lubricated with silicone spray to reduce chafing and wear.

    Q:
What type of yoke is used in the 2006 Toyota Tacoma and what is its function? Posted by Customer
    A:
Driveshafts on 2WD models employ a splined yoke, known as a "slip yoke" or "sleeve yoke," at the front. This yoke slips into the extension housing of the transmission, allowing the driveshaft to slide back and forth within the transmission during vehicle operation. An oil seal prevents fluid leakage and keeps dirt from entering the transmission. If leakage is evident at the front of the driveshaft, the oil seal should be replaced.

    Q:
What is the first step to prepare the 2005 Toyota Tacoma for driveshaft removal? Posted by Customer
    A:
Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Place the transmission in Neutral with the parking brake off. Block the front wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
