To replace the rear parking brake shoes, first, loosen the wheel lug nuts and securely raise the rear of the vehicle on jackstands, ensuring the front wheels are blocked. Release the parking brake, remove the wheel and the rear disc. Remember to work on one brake assembly at a time to avoid confusion. Clean the parking brake assembly with brake system cleaner and do not use compressed air. Using locking pliers, remove the parking brake shoe return spring, the adjuster spring, and the adjuster. Remove both shoes and release the anchor pin by rotating the hold-down spring retainer, then slide out the actuating lever to disconnect the parking brake shoe actuating lever from the shoes. Slide the cable end over the actuator tips and reinstall both brake shoes and the retaining pin. Reconnect the parking brake cable to the actuator, place the hold-down spring and retainer onto the shoes, and apply a light film of high-temperature grease to the backing plate where the shoes contact it. Finally, check the rear disc for any defects, resurface if necessary, and install it. Adjust the parking brake by turning the star wheel adjuster, then install the caliper bracket, rear brake pads, and caliper. Install the wheel and lug nuts, check wheel rotation, and apply the parking brake as needed for adjustments. Lower the vehicle, tighten the lug nuts, and thoroughly test the brake and parking brake operation before driving.
