Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, allowing the front suspension to hang free. Measure the exposed part of the adjusting bolt, recording this measurement for reassembly, as failing to tighten the adjusting bolt to the same spot will upset the ride height on that side of the vehicle. Loosen and remove the adjusting nut, then take out the anchor arm. Pull the torsion bar out of the torque arm, applying penetrating oil if the splines are frozen; if removing both torsion bars, note that they are not interchangeable due to left and right markings on the rear ends. For a 2WD model, if replacing the lower control arm, or for a 4WD model, if replacing the upper control arm, remove the torque arm. Installation follows the reverse process of removal, ensuring to lubricate the splines with multi-purpose grease, keeping the left and right torsion bars separate, and restoring the correct ride height by adjusting the bolt to match the original exposed length. If the ride height is uneven, adjust the bolt as needed, rolling the vehicle back and forth a few feet between adjustments to settle the suspension.
