To remove the switch, unbolt the negative terminal of the battery and also engage the transaxle into Neutral. Subtract the nut and take off the shift lever and disconnect the electrical connector. Next, undo the attaching bolts with the help of a wrench and slightly lift the switch off the shift shaft. To install, the flats of the shift shaft must be slid into the corresponding notches in the switch and then push the switch onto the shaft. Place the bolts in a loosely manner and then go ahead with the adjustment. There are two methods to adjust the Neutral start switch: One of them, for example, requires the disconnection of the electrical connector, the loosening of the mounting bolts on the switch, and the measurement of the switch's continuity with an ohmmeter after rotating the switch; when correct continuity is obtained between the terminals, this means the switch is in the Neutral position, and the mounting bolts should be tightened securely. The second one applies the use of a switch which should be rotated until the neutral basic line on the switch housing matches the groove of the shift shaft and then the bolts are tightened.

The Neutral Safety Switch prevents the engine from starting in any gear other than Park or Neutral. To check the switch, raise the vehicle and unplug the electrical connector. Test the continuity across the indicated terminals using an ohmmeter. If the switch doesn't operate correctly, try adjusting it and retest. If it still fails, replace it. To adjust the switch, place the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers in Neutral, loosen the retaining bolt, align the groove and neutral basic line, and tighten the bolt. For replacement, follow specific steps for your vehicle model, which may include removing the exhaust pipe and heat shield or detaching oil cooler pipes. Unplug the electrical connector, remove the lock washer and nut, and then remove the retaining bolt to take out the switch. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring proper adjustment and continuity testing.

To adjust the switch, you should place the shift lever in Neutral and loosen the switch retaining bolt. Then, align the groove and neutral basic line, and tighten the bolt while holding the switch in position.

Disconnect the electrical connector from the TPS, and if equipped with a throttle positioner, apply vacuum to it. Measure the resistance between the indicated terminal pairs using an ohmmeter.

To adjust the switch, loosen the switch retaining bolts and rotate the switch until the flat on the shaft and the neutral basic line on the switch are aligned. Hold the switch in this position and tighten the bolts.

Detach the manual lever, then loosen the switch retaining bolts. The flat on the shaft and the pointer should align with the Neutral line on the switch when installing the switch. 3. Hold the switch in this position and tighten the bolts. 4. Note: The pointer on the sheet metal lock plate will indicate the alignment of the flat on the shaft with the Neutral line on the body of the switch.

The Park/Neutral position switch is responsible for preventing the engine from starting in any gear other than Park or Neutral.

Knock sensors detect abnormal vibrations in the engine and produce AC output voltage that increases with the severity of the knock, allowing the ECM to adjust timing to reduce spark knock.

Disconnect the electrical connector and measure the MAF sensor terminals. For a 3-terminal airflow sensor, connect probes to the proper terminals and blow air through the sensor to observe voltage fluctuations.
