Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, ensuring that the lockout feature of the anti-theft audio system is turned off if applicable. Disable the airbag system and remove the steering wheel along with the steering column covers. Unplug the electrical connector from the turn signal switch/headlight switch. For T100 models, use an ohmmeter to check the continuity of the switch terminals: there should be no continuity between any terminals on Low or High beam with the switch in the OFF position, but continuity should exist between terminals 5, 12, and 13 in the FLASH position. In the TAIL position, continuity should be present between terminals 10 and 11 on low and high beam, and in the HEAD position, continuity should be between terminals 4, 10, and 11 on low beam, and between terminals 5 and 13 on high beam. If the switch does not operate, replace it. For Tacoma and 4 Runner models, check the continuity of the switch terminals: no continuity should be present in the OFF position, continuity between terminals 14 and 16 in the TAIL position, and continuity between terminals 13, 14, and 16 in the HEAD position. Additionally, check for continuity between terminals 16 and 17 on Low beam, between terminals 7 and 16 on High beam, and between terminals 7, 8, and 16 in Flash mode. Replace the switch if it does not operate. Detach the turn signal switch/headlight switch from the switch body, and installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring that the spiral cable is correctly centered before installing the steering wheel.
