    Q:
How do I disconnect, remove, and reinstall the Transmission Range (TR) sensor or Park/Neutral switch assembly on Toyota Highlander? Posted by Customer
    A:
On early models, the TR sensor is located on the front of the transaxle, while on later models it's on the top and is referred to as the Park/Neutral switch assembly. Begin by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Raise the vehicle and support it securely. Disconnect the electrical connector from the TR sensor and detach the shift control cable from the control shaft lever. Proceed to remove the control shaft lever from the manual valve shaft and take off the manual valve shaft nut by prying open the lockplate tabs. Take out the TR sensor mounting bolts and the TR sensor itself. Remove the air filter housing. For Toyota models, rotate the locking clip counterclockwise to remove, while on Lexus models, take off the nut and disconnect the control cable. Detach the Park/Neutral switch electrical connector, followed by the control shaft retaining nut, shaft, and locking washer. Remove the switch assembly from the manual shaft. For installation, position the TR sensor on the manual valve shaft, attach it with loose bolts, and install a new lockplate. Align the control shaft lever with the Neutral position, set the lockplate pointer accordingly, and secure the manual valve shaft nut. The rest of the procedure involves placing the manual shift lever in Neutral, setting up the Park/Neutral switch on the manual shaft, adjusting the control shaft arm, and verifying alignment. Once everything is properly aligned and secured, complete the installation by following the removal steps in reverse order.

    Q:
How to replace and adjust the Park/Neutral Position switch on 2007 through 2015 Toyota Avalon? Posted by Customer
    A:
The Park/Neutral Position switch controls the Park/Neutral function, backup light switch, and gear position information. It only allows engine start in Park or Neutral. To replace the switch on 2009 and earlier four-cylinder models, raise the vehicle, disconnect the connector, remove the lever retaining nut, lock plate, switch retaining bolts, and the switch. For V6 models and 2010 and later four-cylinder models, remove the engine cover, air filter housing, transaxle cable bracket clip, control cable retaining nut, wiring harness clamp, and connector. Then remove the control shaft lever nut washer and lever, switch retaining bolts, and clean the switch area before removing the switch. To adjust, loosen the bolts, align the switch, and tighten the bolts.

    Q:
How do you adjust the switch for the 2004 Toyota Avalon? Posted by Customer
    A:
To adjust the switch, loosen the switch retaining bolts and rotate the switch until the groove at the shaft aligns with the neutral basic line on the switch. Hold the switch in this position and tighten the bolts. The pointer on the sheet metal lock plate will indicate the alignment of the groove on the shaft with the Neutral line on the body of the switch.

    A:
If the engine starts with the shift lever in any position other than Park or Neutral, the switch needs to be adjusted.

    A:

    Q:
What role does the transmission position switch play for the Electronic Controlled Transaxle (ECT) ECU for the 2003 Toyota Solara? Posted by Customer
    A:
The transmission position switch acts as an information sensor for the Electronic Controlled Transaxle (ECT) Electronic Control Unit (ECU). When the shift lever is placed in position, the Park/Neutral position switch sends a voltage signal to the ECU.
