To remove the refrigerant, it is recommended to have it discharged at a dealer service department or an automotive air conditioning repair facility. For 1989 and later models, the radiator grille needs to be removed. The refrigerant lines should be detached from the receiver/drier, and the electrical connector to the pressure switch should be disconnected if equipped. It is important to immediately cap the open fittings to prevent dirt and moisture from entering. The A/C Accumulator can then be unbolted at the clamp and lifted from the vehicle. To install, new O-rings should be placed on the lines and lubricated with clean refrigerant oil. The installation process is the reverse of removal, but it is crucial not to remove the sealing caps until ready to reconnect the lines and to correctly identify the inlet and outlet connections. If a new receiver/drier is installed, 0.7 fluid ounces (20 cc) of refrigerant oil should be added to the system. It is important to note that when replacing entire components, additional refrigerant oil should be added equal to the amount removed with the component being replaced. It is recommended to have the system evacuated, charged, and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
