    Q:
How to test and replace a thermostat on Toyota MR2? Posted by Customer
    A:
The thermostat should be removed. For the purpose of testing, the thermostat needs to be put in water slowly raised to boiling temperature-if the valve fails to open when it reaches the exact point, then a new one is needed. Observe the water temperature at which the valve pops and compare with this designated popping temperature. The thermostat should be replaced if it does not open at its rated temperature.

    Q:
How do you remove and install the thermostat in a Toyota MR2? Posted by Customer
    A:
First of all, disconnect the hose from the air bleeder valve. To remove the thermostat, disconnect the small rubber hose from the air bleeder valve and remove the housing bolts. Remove both bolts and separate the water inlet housing halves. Remove the thermostat. Be sure to install a new O-ring on the new thermostat. Installation is the reverse of removal.

    Q:
How can you determine if the thermostat is stuck open and needs to be replaced for the 1990 Toyota Celica? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the engine seems to be taking a long time to warm up, it is likely that the thermostat is stuck open and should be replaced.
