First of all, you need to check the coolant level, drive belt tension, and temperature gauge operation before servicing the thermostat. To replace it, disconnect the negative cable from the battery, drain the coolant from the radiator, and remove the necessary components to access the thermostat housing. Installation for the remaining components is the reverse of the removal.

Before assuming the thermostat is the issue, you should check the coolant level, drive belt tension, and temperature gauge (or light) operation.

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.

It means that the coolant is flowing and the thermostat is open. Further diagnosis can be found in the Troubleshooting Section of the manual.

1. Remove the front engine mount bracket and control rod assembly. 2. Remove the drivebelt. 3. Remove the idler pulley assembly. 4. Disconnect the radiator hose from the thermostat housing. 5. Remove the thermostat housing mounting fasteners and housing from the coolant inlet housing. Remove the thermostat, noting the direction in which it was installed in the housing, and thoroughly clean the sealing surfaces. 6. Install a new gasket to the thermostat (the thermostat gasket, which is actually a grooved sealing ring, fits around the edge of the thermostat). Install the thermostat into the inlet housing, with the jiggle valve positioned at the highest point. Install the thermostat housing and proceed to the next step.
