Toyota 90916-A3001 Thermostat

1. Remove the front engine mount bracket and control rod assembly. 2. Remove the drivebelt. 3. Remove the idler pulley assembly. 4. Disconnect the radiator hose from the thermostat housing. 5. Remove the thermostat housing mounting fasteners and housing from the coolant inlet housing. Remove the thermostat, noting the direction in which it was installed in the housing, and thoroughly clean the sealing surfaces. 6. Install a new gasket to the thermostat (the thermostat gasket, which is actually a grooved sealing ring, fits around the edge of the thermostat). Install the thermostat into the inlet housing, with the jiggle valve positioned at the highest point. Install the thermostat housing and proceed to the next step.

Before assuming the thermostat is the issue, you should check the coolant level, drive belt tension, and temperature gauge (or light) operation.

Tighten the housing fasteners to the torque and reinstall the remaining components in the reverse order of removal.

If the engine takes a long time to warm up, it is likely that the thermostat is stuck open and should be replaced.
